About us

The Upbeat Jazz Foundation is a non-profit organization that aims to help bring joy to others through music. The foundation was founded by Ryan Douglas, a classical pianist, after he recognized the profound power that music can have as an agent of healing and joy. Ryan, now 17, has been playing the piano since the age of 5. Since then, he has won numerous awards at the local, state, and national levels. After being selected as a finalist in the American Protege International Piano and Strings Competition, he will be performing at Carnegie hall this coming November. His brother, Sean Douglas, also helps lead the foundation. Sean, 16, is an avid drummer who currently is a member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Jazz Band and Trio.
Performances often include a mix of musical genres. Ryan, along with students from the piano studio of Mrs. Yvette Greene, covers the classical and solo-piano portion. Sean, Ryan, and other instrumentalists play a mix of Jazz and Rock music, providing a unique mix of musicians from different backgrounds and styles.
The foundation has played at Nursing Homes and Rehabilitation centers, and continues to provide patients and elderly people with what is perhaps nature’s greatest medicine- music.
